GLASS WARRANTY & INSPECTION

At iBuildstore, we deliver high-quality glass balustrade systems focused on safety, style, and customer satisfaction. Though toughened for durability, glass can scratch, chip or scallop impacting its appearance—so extra care is essential to maintain its sleek finish, especially during construction phases.

CUSTOMER REPORTING PROCESS AFTER DELIVERY

For our valued customers, any breakages, scratches, blemishes, scallops, chips, or other defects discovered upon delivery must be reported to sales@ibuildstore.com.au within 48 hours.

Before reporting, the NSW Dept. of Fair Trading guidelines can be used to help determine if the issue qualifies as a defect:

  • Can it be seen from 1.5M away?
  • Is it more than 10mm long?
  • Are there more than 3 imperfections on the panel?
Normal Viewing Positions
19.4 Glazing Minor scratches, fractures, chips, or other blemishes that are not more than 10mm long, and where there are not more than three blemishes per pane, are not considered defects.

When reporting an issue, please include:

  • Clear photographs of the affected area
  • Any identifying stickers on the glass
  • The location of the affected panel to assist with assessment

In certain cases, a site inspection by our team may be required to assess the fault and determine any costs or responsibility involved.

Please note: Any defects reported after handover will be considered to have been caused by others. In such cases, the costs of rework will require a work/purchase order to be quoted and charged.

DEFECTS CAUSED BY EXTERNAL FACTORS

Glass damaged by external parties or factors (e.g., trades, misuse, impact, or natural disasters) is not covered under warranty. Costs of rework will require a quoted work/purchase order.

REPAIRING GLASS DEFECTS

We aim to repair glass in situ using industry-approved methods such as specialist polishing for scratch removal. If replacement is required, we will match edging and iron levels as closely as possible, but a 100% match cannot be guaranteed.

If surrounding structures must be removed or replaced, these costs will not be covered by iBuildstore without prior consultation with supervisors or construction managers.

SPONTANEOUS GLASS BREAKAGE

iBuildstore provides only A Grade toughened glass to AS 2208 – Safety Glazing Materials in Buildings. Although rare, toughened glass can break unexpectedly. Causes may include:

  • Manufacture Defects: Nickel sulphide inclusions during float glass production. These may cause failure during toughening or heat soaking.
  • Thermal Expansion: Significant temperature differences across a panel can create thermal stress and cause breakage.

Note: iBuildstore will not warrant spontaneous glass breakage after delivery or job completion. Toughened glass, though 4–5 times stronger than float glass, can still break if impacted, particularly on edges.

OPTIONS TO MINIMISE SPONTANEOUS BREAKAGE

  • Heat Soaking: A secondary controlled heat cycle to accelerate any nickel sulphide inclusions, causing glass to fail during the process if present. This option incurs additional cost but is available upon request.
  • 3M Glass Panel Films: While not preventing breakage, this film holds glass fragments together in the event of shattering. Available as an optional extra.
